Welcome To 1st Grade!

 This is going to be an amazing First week of school! It was amazing to meet some new scholars and see some familiar faces. We are so excited to see what this year will bring, and we are so thrilled to have your scholars with us! This year we will learn so many new things! This is the first-grade blog, this is where you can see a week at a glance of what your scholar will be learning/ learned. This is also a place where we will put important information, dates and events that is going on within our grade level and as Great Hearts Western Hills as a whole as well. If you have further questions or concerns, please reach out to your scholar's teacher and AT and they can answer those questions and concerns. Have a Great Weekend!

Important Information/ Reminders:

- Please remember if you decide to bring lunch for your scholar to please bring it to the front desk 30 minutes before our scheduled lunch time which is at 11:25, so we can have an accurate Lunch count.

- Whenever your Scholars Teacher sends home any document's, test's and or quizzes that require a parent signature please sign and return it to school the next day. 

- It is important to always send a snack to school every day with your scholar so they can have a refresh for the day, and so they aren't feeling left out as well.

-Make sure you are also checking, reading any teacher comments and taking out any graded papers from their black folder because we will be sending stuff home once a week so you can see the beautiful work your scholar is doing here at school!

Next Week at a Glance:

Spalding:

Scholars will be introduced to Spalding procedures, including OPR, WPR, and Phonemic Awareness.  They will dictate the first 26 phonograms to the teacher, identify syllables, and identify the different sounds in each syllable by using finger spelling. 

Literature: 

 Table Manners by: Gelett Bergess   Students will be able to accurately recite the poem using proper body language and maintain eye contact tell why the author wrote the poem.

Best Friends for Francess by Russell Hoban: Frances, her sister and their friends have a wonderful few days exploring the true meaning of friendship. The story shows friendship being able to cross gender boundaries and the boundaries of siblings. A wonderful book to help show siblings how to get along and even become best friends.

 Math:

Students will learn the importance of safety of science materials & set class expectations. In addition they will have an introduction to the Sun, Moon & Stars

Science:

History:

This week in History students will recognize different kinds of maps and how useful they are! As well they will learn to Identify a specific location on a map
