Also there will be no Math Homework on Monday or Thursday due to concert night for siblings. There also won't be any homework assigned this Thursday the 2nd.

 Important Dates:

November 3rd: K-2 Music concert

November 9th: Grades 1-4 Field Day

November 10th: Veterans Day

November 15th: Literary Day Proposal slip Due to Lead Teacher

November 16th: Grandparents Day  K-2

November 17th: Literary Character Day

November 20th-24th: Thanksgiving Break

Important Reminders:

-Please Remember to bring a snack and water bottle daily for your scholar.

- It does tend to get a bit chilly in the classrooms and your scholar might want a sweater so just in case you may pack a Great Hearts Western Hills sweater or cardigan in their backpack to have.

- For Spalding Homework please have your scholar write the words or phonograms a total of 2 times and in 2 Collums

- Every Tuesday we will send home the scholar's yellow folder please sign and return anything that needs to be returned and signed and remove the rest to keep at home

-Please discuss with your scholars to not talk during instruction time and to respect their teachers time of teaching.

Your scholar needs to bring an independent reading book to school every day to use during dismissal. This is especially important if your scholar is picked up at Upper School because the expectation in the MPR is that scholars read silently.

- We will be sending home book bags and checking the scholar's comprehension and understanding of their book so please go over it with them every night.

-If you are able to bring snacks for your class for scholars who are not able to bring one that would be extremely helpful! Please make sure it is in individual packaging.

- Please go over playground etiquette with your scholar and remind them to please keep their hand to themselves and to not push and shove other scholars.

Week at a Glance:

Spalding:  Review phonograms 1-62 will be reinforced with daily OPR/WPR and applied through analysis of daily spelling instruction. An emphasis on base words continues as the teacher helps children discover the meaning transferred to the derivatives as endings are added and prefixes introduced.

Math: Students will write addition and subtraction stories and the corresponding equations, add numbers to 20, and use 2 “parts” to make the “whole” within 20.

Science:  Students will learn about Earth’s force, motion, and energy.
Writing/Grammer: Students will learn about the months of the year, the order they are arranged and how to create a sentence from beginning to end.

Literature: In Literature we will be finishing the story House on Pooh Corner. “In Which Christopher Robin and Pooh come to an Enchanted Place, and We Leave Them There” is the culmination of all the stories.  The friends know that Christopher Robin is going ‘somewhere’.  The friends want to share their love with Christopher and have decided to pass a “Resolution”.  Our poem this week is Rope Rhyme by Eloise Greenfield. “Rope Rhyme” is a clever poem that teaches the students about jumping rope. The poem uses language to understand a simple child’s game. Use the poem’s words to ‘see and hear’ the clues of what is happening in the poem: jumping rope, playing counting games, how many people are using the rope.

History:   learn about major world religions, beginning with a focus on geography and major symbols and figures. The purpose is not to explore matters of theology but to provide a basic vocabulary for understanding many events and ideas in history
