Quarter 1 Week 2 August 19-23rd
1ST Grade Week 2
Hello Families! we have officially finished week 1! We are all still adjusting to our schedule and routines. As we continue to Learn and adjust to our schedule here are a few reminders. Please Hydrate your scholars! When we have recess, it is really Hot at both times we go outside. Please just remind your scholars to get water while they are playing and at home. This week we will send home Homework that is required and will now start to be taken as a grade if you have any questions, please reach out to your scholars Lead/ AT Teachers. Also please read and sign your scholar's behavior log and Agenda and fill out their reading log. Scholars should be reading with or without you every night. Thank you all for everything you do and let's have a great week! :)

Important Information/ Reminders:
- Please remember if you decide to bring lunch for your scholar to please bring it to the front desk 30 minutes before our scheduled lunch time which is at 11:25, so we can have an accurate Lunch count.
- Whenever your Scholars Teacher sends home any document's, test's and or quizzes that require a parent signature please sign and return it to school the next day.
- It is important to always send a snack to school every day with your scholar so they can have a refresh for the day, and so they aren't feeling left out as well.
-Make sure you are also checking, reading any teacher comments and taking out any graded papers from their black folder because we will be sending stuff home once a week so you can see the beautiful work your scholar is doing here at school!

Spalding:
Students will continue to practice OPR, WPR, and Phonemic awareness, review the first 26 phonograms, and then use the same process to review and practice phonograms 27-45.
Literature:
Rapunzel: The story of Rapunzel in English is a well-known fairytale that kids love. This story is about a girl with beautiful long golden hair who was locked up in a tower by an evil witch. The tale goes on to tell us how she defeated the witch and lived a happy life with her prince
The Real Princess: In this classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, a real princess is identified through a unique method.. A prince insists on marrying a real princess. When a woman comes to his door maintaining that she is a real princess, the prince's mother tests her by burying a pea under a huge stack of mattresses and then ordering the woman to sleep on the mattresses.
The Mighty Oak: 1st grade begins the year with this poem to guide the students to the understanding that the accomplishment of their small duties as children and students lead to great things. We will be working on reciting the poem from memory, posture and body language.Math:
Scholars will focus on comparing two groups of objects this week. Scholars will use manipulatives, such as, different colored cubes, various erasers or pencils to distinguish between two groups. They will also focus on which object has more than, less than, or the same number in each group.
Science:
This week students will learn about daytime and nighttime to understand objects they see in the sky at different times. They will
take a walk outside to behold the benefits of the sun’s light during the day. A flashlight shining on a globe will be
used indoors to represent the sun during the day and how different areas on Earth experience daytime and
nighttime at contrasting times
History:
Students will learn about the importance of maps and compasses. Scholars will review our continents as well as emphasizing our own; North America.
