Up-Coming Test Dates:
Week at a Glance:
Spalding: New Phonograms 46-54 will be reinforced with daily OPR/WPR and applied trough analysis of daily spelling instruction. An emphasis on base words continues as the teacher helps children discover the meaning transferred to the derivatives as endings are added and prefixes introduced.
Math: Students will reflect on their knowledge of subtraction within 10 and participate in a performance task to consolidate and deepen their understanding of using subtraction strategies and number bonds to add and subtract. This lesson allows students to show, explain, and apply their thinking while subtracting groups, creating and writing fact families, and comparing numbers using subtraction. Students will also demonstrate their mastery of the concepts of subtraction within 10, using learned strategies and number bonds to add and subtract, creating and writing fact families, and comparing numbers using subtraction on a final assessment on Friday.
Grammer/ Writing: Students will identify the subject of a sentence, identify and write singular and plural nouns, and neatly and accurately copy a complete sentence.
Literature: October’s Party by George Cooper is an imaginative reflection on the characteristics of the changing weather. This is a fun poem to enjoy; the students should take delight in the personification of autumn, and in the ability for language to inspire mental images. This poem will be for recitation on October 1-2, 2024
Owl at Home - The Guest Owl at Home is one of our Classics to Keep. In the first chapter of Owl at Home, the owl hears Winter rapping at his door and invites him inside. However, the wind blows snow into the house and freezes the owl's soup, so the owl decides to close the door and make Winter leave.
History& Science: This week in History we are closing our Unit 1: Continents, Countries, and maps with our Unit 1 Test and entering into Unit 2: Mesopotamia. In Science we are taking our Sun, Moon & Stars Test at the end of the week.
