Welcome to 1st Grade
It is a brand-new Quarter and this week we will be introducing numbers above 10 to 20. Also, next week is Fall break and we also do not have school this Friday due to Professional development for teachers. Please ensure you sign up for Parent teacher conferences next week links are below. Also please go over playground rules and expectations and what is age-appropriate topics to play and discuss on the playground. Thank you everyone have a great week!

Important Information:
- Scholars with Upper School siblings (who wait in the MPR at carline) must have a silent reading book everyday with them or in their backpack.
- Please make sure your scholar packs a snack everyday so they can refresh their energy. It doesn't have to be a big snack but just something to tie them over till lunch time.
- Scholars have Math and Spalding Homework daily except for Fridays so please make sure you are checking their black folders daily for homework and math workbook and reading the agendas.
- Please send your scholar with a water bottle to school every day so they can stay hydrated.
-For Spalding homework please write the words 2 times and in 2 Columns, you will fold the paper hot dog style and write on the left-hand side and close to the folded line.
- We are going to start going to the library so please make sure when you see A Great Hearts Western Hills book make sure they return it on their next library day your lead will send an email to let you know when that is. (Schedule is down BelowLibrary Rotation/ Schedule:

Spalding: Review phonograms 1-54 will be reinforced with daily OPR/WPR and applied through analysis of daily spelling instruction. An emphasis on base words continues as the teacher helps children discover the meaning transferred to the derivatives as endings are added and prefixes introduced.
Math: In previous chapters, students have worked with numbers to 10. In this first lesson of chapter 4, students will review counting, comparing, and ordering numbers to 10 in preparation to working with numbers through 20. Students will be presented with new situations of counting past 10 and discuss strategies they can use to do so. They will also review prior knowledge of comparing and ordering numbers and using one-to-one correspondence
Grammer/ Writing: Students will identify the subject and predicate of a sentence and neatly and accurately copy a complete sentence. Students are working on retelling a story by identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution.
Literature: The Caterpillar by Christina Rossetti: This poem encourages students to reflect on the caterpillar’s metamorphosis by comparing it to death and rebirth.
Owl at Home is a children's book by Arnold Lobel about an owl who lives in a cozy house and has many adventures. This is a Classic to Keep.
History& Science: This week scholars will be learning about one of the first civilizations known as Mesopotamia. In Science, scholars will be starting our Unit 2: Plant & Animal Survival.
