Hello families this past week was Field Day and the scholars had an absolute blast! Thank you room parents and volunteers for making such an amazing day for the scholars! :) This wee is our Veterans Day Lunch We are so excited for this week! :) Book Fair is also this week see the schedule below. Important Information:
- Scholars with Upper School siblings (who wait in the MPR at carline) must have a silent reading book everyday with them or in their backpack.
- Please make sure your scholar packs a snack everyday so they can refresh their energy. It doesn't have to be a big snack but just something to tie them over till lunch time.
- Scholars have Math and Spalding Homework daily except for Fridays so please make sure you are checking their black folders daily for homework and math workbook and reading the agendas.
- Please send your scholar with a water bottle to school every day so they can stay hydrated.
-For Spalding homework please write the words 2 times and in 2 Columns, you will fold the paper hot dog style and write on the left-hand side and close to the folded line.
- We are going to start going to the library so please make sure when you see A Great Hearts Western Hills book make sure they return it on their next library day your lead will send an email to let you know when that is. (Schedule is down BelowLibrary Rotation/ Schedule:

Week at a Glance:
Spalding:
Math: Students have added and subtracted numbers within 20 throughout their time using the 1A books. In this opening lesson of chapter 6, students will explore the use of learned addition and subtraction strategies while working to solve story problems. Students will be asked to model addition and subtraction stories, write the corresponding equations, and discuss strategies they used to solve the problems. This lesson will help teachers assess students’ readiness for learning to solve written word problems using the part-whole and comparison models.
Grammer/ Writing: This week First Grade will continue to work on their narration skills by retelling Frog and Toad stories. We will also review sentences, including what makes a complete sentence, and what the subject of a sentence is.
History& Science:
Table Manners is a poem by American author, artist, and humorist Gelett Burgess that teaches children about manners in a humorous way. 1st Grade will be reciting this poem Thursday and Friday this week using: an expressive tone, a natural rhythm and appropriate gestures.
