Up-Coming Test Dates:

- Spalding Spelling Test Every Friday

- Spalding Phonogram Tests Every Thursday

Week at a Glance:

Spalding: Scholars will be reviewing 1-45 Phonograms and are starting to add new words into their pink notebook from the Ayers list. Scholars will be finishing up Unit 2 of their Ayers list and will be adding new phonograms to their daily skillset.

Math:   Previously, students made subtraction stories for “take from” situations and wrote the corresponding equations using the – and = symbols. This week, they will make subtraction stories using the “take apart” strategy. They will also learn to organize their thinking using number bonds. Use of concrete materials to physically “take apart” the whole continues to be important for their understanding and mastery of this skill. Additionally, building on the addition and subtraction strategies previously learned and their knowledge of number bonds, students will begin to understand the relationship between addition and subtraction.

Grammer/ Writing: This week in grammar and writing we are working on distinguishing the difference between a complete sentence and sentence fragments.

Literature: House on Pooh Corner chapters 2 and 4:“The Story In Which Tigger Comes to the Forest and Has Breakfast” is one that delights the imagination through the virtue of citizenship and friendship. “In Which It Is Shown That Tigers Don’t Climb Trees” is a story of limits.  Tigger has a limit; his friends must think of a way to help him.

October’s Party by George Cooper is an imaginative reflection on the characteristics of the changing weather. This is a fun poem to enjoy; the students should take delight in the personification of autumn, and in the ability for language to inspire mental images.  This poem will be for recitation on October 1-2, 2024

History& Science: This week scholars will learn about the stars and their constellations. In History, scholars will go over Africa & Asia, as well as Australia & Antarctica to wrap up this unit.
